Yesterday at about 6:30pm, two regular players got involved in a very memorable hand that resulted in the awarding of the largest Jackpot in Playground Poker Club history! The loser of the hand (hence the winner of the top jackpot prize) was Christopher McClung, who is a Players Club member and a familiar face at tables at stakes ranging from $2-$5 all the way up to the largest games offered at the Club. The winner of the hand was Marie Tran, better known to most by her screen name of ‘Princess’ who is well-known for her fine dresses, talkative nature and her aggressive play at the tables.
As we all came to find out, Marie raised pocket Jacks preflop and was called by Chris holding pocket 88. The flop was a monster for both players:
gave Marie top set while Chris flopped bottom set. An
on the turn pretty much sealed the fact that Chris was walking away a winner – and the
on the river simply dictated that he was walking away with much more than he anticipated!
This was the first Primary Bad Beat Jackpot to be won since the new ‘Three Jackpots’ promotion was inaugurated in June. The Jackpot had grown to $285,848 – the largest in Playground history – while the qualifying hand requirement had fallen to just 6666 in the 17 weeks since the new system came into effect.
The Jackpot winnings will be split according to Playground’s normal proportions:
– 40% of the Bad Beat Jackpot will be awarded to the Bad Beat hand (losing hand)
– 20% of the Bad Beat Jackpot will be awarded to the winner of the hand
– 20% of the Bad Beat Jackpot will be awarded equally among the balance of the seated players on the table who received cards at the beginning of the hand.
– 20% of the Bad Beat Jackpot will be awarded equally among all other cash game players on the floor.
The Primary Jackpot has now reset to $100,000 and the minimum qualifying hand has reset to AAAA. The Secondary Jackpot also resets as it is fixed at 20% of the Primary Jackpot amount and it’s minimum qualifying hand remains at AAAKK. The Omaha Bad Beat remains at $5000 and its minimum qualifying hand remains at 8888.
