Playground Poker’s Players Club member Jonathan Roy has snagged third place in the World Poker Tour World Championship. The winner of the first ever WPT Montreal last November, Jonathan navigated a very tough field of 146 players over the course of 5 days to make it to the 6-handed Final Table.
Action on the Final Table got underway at 4pm PDT with Jonathan in third place by chip count (1.9M) and playing in Seat 1, to the left of massive chip leader David “Chino” Rheem (5.495M). Also on the final table were David Peters (1.085M), Erick Lindgren (3.355M), Brandon Steven (1.21M), and Matt Hyman (1.56M). Some of the star power had left the tournament when Daniel Negreanu finished on the Final Table bubble, but the remaining 6 players were all experienced players with resumes to match.
With his third place finish, Jonathan won US$421,800. As well, the 1100 WPT Player of the Year points he earned vaulted him into 2nd place on the Season XI standings.
The WPT World Championship is a US$25.5K buy-in event held annually at Bellagio in Las Vegas. This event and the WPT World Championship Super High Roller event mark the end of WPT Season XI, which began in early August 2012 and featured 23 Main Event stops in North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia including two stops at Playground Poker Club.
