The 44th World Series of Poker has been running since the end of May in Las Vegas and so far Canadian players and Montreal-based players ‘-and members of our Players Club ‘-have been doing extremely well!
The Series started with a solid performance by frequent Playground player Garen who came 28th in Event #2. Another frequent player here, Ami Alibay, followed this up with a fantastic 8th place finish in Event #4. The Millionaire Maker (Event #6) didn’t see any new Playground millionaires, but two regular tournament players here managed to cash in the humongous tournament ‘-Eric Afriat and Carlo Nini. Congratulations to everyone ‘-although we know that each of you (like all poker players) would have preferred an even better result!
Players Club members have also had a strong Series so far. Greg ‘FBT’ Mueller nabbed a 3rd place finish in Event #8 (8-Game Mix) and Gavin Smith placed 7th in Event #13 (7 Card Stud High-Low Split 8 or better). Event #12 saw Jonathan Roy’s first cash in this edition of the WSOP, a 15th place finish, followed by a 34th place finish in Event #21. Event #21 ($3000 No Limit Hold’em 6 Max) was also Chanracy Khun’s career best performance in the World Series ‘-Chanmix played deep into the final day and finished in 12th place.
Two other performances should be singled out for recognition in the first half of the WSOP 2013. Two players who went deep in the WPT Canadian Spring Championship here in early May have had an exceptional Series so far. Michael Malm (23rd in the WPT CSC) won his first bracelet in Event #8, and Jaspal Brar (17th in the WPT CSC ‘-and when he busted, he jumped straight into Event 9 and won) came 3rd in Event #12. Congratulations to both players!
We’ll be keeping track of the rest of the series and do a roundup in Part 2 later this summer.
