July’s edition of the Playground Power Weekend wrapped up on Sunday with the conclusion of the $50K GTD $150 + $15 NL Hold’em Re-entry tournament. This topped off a fantastic weekend of poker that began on Thursday night, during which over $170K in total prizes were distributed.
The festivities got started on Thursday night with a $200 + $20 NL Hold’em Freeze that attracted 172 players. That meant a prize pool valued at $33,368 that was paid out to a total of 20 players, and by the time there were 8 players left they decided to do an ICM chop. The remaining prize pool was divided and Patrick Tardif ended in first place, taking home $4,703.00 for his efforts on the night.
On Friday at noon, attention shifted to the $200 + $30 + $100 NL Hold’em Bounty tournament. Each player had a huge $100 bounty on their head, so not only was there a really great prize pool, but players could make even more money along the way as they eliminated their competition from the tourney. Again the turnout was impressive 202 players entered the tournament, adding up to a prize pool of $39,188 not including bounties! The last two players standing were Matthew Olma in 1st place ($8,406) and Jeremie Bilodeau in 2nd ($7,207). Congratulations to both of them!
Saturday and Sunday were devoted to the $150 + $15 NL Hold’em Re-entry tournament, with a 50k guarantee, which was far surpassed as the prize pool ended up reaching a total of $97,485.00. With the high turnout for both starting flights, there were still 165 players left when action resumed on day 2. The bubble burst a few hours into the day, and by the time the final table was assembled there was an appetite once again to lock in a solid payday with an ICM chop, as stacks had gotten relatively shallow.
Thanks to everyone who played in the events and congratulations to all of the winners! We’ll see everyone back at Playground Poker Club for the Montreal Poker Expo from August 21st to September 2nd.
