September has come and with it comes the end of the first Montréal Poker Expo, after 13 days of spectacular poker action at Canada’s premier poker destination, Playground Poker Club. Over the course of the 14 Montréal Poker Expo events over $1 Million in prizes were awarded!
The kickoff event for the Expo was the Strike Out Cancer Charity Event, a $135 + $25 NL Hold’em re-entry event that saw 1186 entrants all contribute to a $29,710 donation that has been made to the Jodi Taiger Lazarus Fund for Hereditary Breast Cancer Research. The winner of the 3-day event was Mark Wells, who took home a handsome $24,440 for his victory.
Attention then turned to the Montréal Poker Expo Main Event, a $1,000 + $100 NL Hold’em Re-entry event with three Day 1s. There were a solid 647 entries in the event, adding up to a massive prize pool of $613,040.00. There were a few big names in the field to start Day 2, including Mike Leah, Timothy Ulmer, and Players Club member Chanracy Khun but going into Day 3, only Chanracy was left in the field alongside 27 others. These included players who have had some great success here in the past like Faisal Khan, Day 3 chip leader Kevin MacDonald, and former Playground event champion Buck Ramsay. By the end of the tournament it came down to a three-way battle between Jonathan Brassard, Chanracy Khun, and Chan An Luong, with Chan An emerging victorious!
The second largest buy-in event of the Montréal Poker Expo was Event 12, a $500 + $50 NL Hold’em Freeze tournament held over two days. The winner in this event was Rodney Ramalho, a local cash game and tournament player who only arrived back in Montreal at the end of the Expo after having made an inspiring deep run in the EPT Barcelona Main Event earlier in the week! Rodney won $14,830 for his efforts.
And now as summer turns to autumn, our attention at Playground Poker Club turns to the annual Playground Poker Fall Classic, presented by partypoker.net. The schedule for the Fall Classic including the 4th WPT Montreal is online now, with a lot more information to come in the next weeks.
