Sunday was Jackpot day at Playground Poker Club as not one but two Bad Beat Jackpots were hit – and one of them was the second-largest Jackpot in the history of the club: $622,242.00!
First up was the Secondary BBJ in the wee hours of Sunday morning. The Secondary BBJ is fixed at $25K and only requires that a player (playing both cards) loses with at minimum a full house of Aces over Kings. This was exactly the losing hand in an AA vs KK showdown in which the board ran out
with the
on the turn giving one player Quad Kings and the
river giving his opponent the full house!
The loser of the hand won 50% of the jackpot the winner of the hand won 25% and the other players at the same table shared the remaining 25%. Congratulations to those winners!
The real fireworks came about 18 hours later, coincidentally on the same table where the Secondary Jackpot hand had played out – Table 1. They were playing $1-$2 NL Hold’em with 8 players at the table when the fateful hand was dealt!
It was a limped 4-way pot to the flop of
. A player led out with a $5 bet and found 2 callers. The
came on the turn which cemented one of the jackpot hands and all three players checked. The river was the
– and the action in the hand took flight. One player checked then the player holding
bet $20. The player to his immediate right (holding
) raised to $45 and after the third player folded the initial bettor re-raised all-in to $163. He was met with an instant call – his opponent had made Quad Tens on the river!
Fortunately his Quad Tens wasn’t enough to win the hand – he won the BBJ instead! The payout for the loser of the hand in the Primary BBJ is 40% of the total jackpot amount while the winner of the hand (with the straight flush in diamonds to the 7) won 20% of the total. The other 6 players at the table shared another 20% and the final 20% of the jackpot is shared amongst all of the other NL Hold’em players at a table when the Jackpot hand occurred.
Congratulations to everyone! And if you weren’t here at Playground Poker Club for this jackpot don’t worry – the jackpot restarts at $250,000! There’s always a big jackpot to be won!
