The second Jackpot in the month of March has just been hit – this time it was the Primary Bad Beat Jackpot which had grown to almost $450,000! Added to the PLO Jackpot that was won a few days ago, March really is living up to its reputation that it comes in like a lion!
The Jackpot hand occurred just after 11:00am on table 1 in the Original poker room. This was a $1/$2 table that had a full complement of 9 players. The hand opened with limps from 4 players until action was on Joey S, a Playground cash game regular, who raised to $13 from the small blind. John C called from middle position and the other players all folded – there were two players to the flop.
Flop:
The flop was a juicy one but Joey opened with a check. John bet $30 and Joey made the call. The pot was now $94.
Turn:
Joey again led with a check, which prompted John to bet the rest of his stack – just $20 more. Joey called and the pot was up to $134 with action closed in the hand.
In cash games, even when action is closed in a hand, the players are not obliged to show their hand right away as they would be in a tournament – and both players showed considerable restraint and chose to keep their hands private for the moment. The dealer, Steven T, dealt the river.
River:
Now it was showdown. As Joey opened his cards, he said: “I hope I lose this!” He did lose this, and a huge cheer erupted at table 1.
Joey S: – he had flopped Quad Queens!
John C: – the river was kind, and John made a Royal Flush on the river!
This was a truly worthy Primary Jackpot hand as Joey flopped the nuts on the flop, only to be out-drawn by the true nut hand when the final cards were dealt!
All Hold’em players in action at the time have earned their share of the $446,438 Jackpot. As the hand loser, and hence Jackpot winner, Joey will receive $178,575 while John, as the winner of the hand, will get the second largest share of the Jackpot – $89,288 (plus the pot). The remaining 7 players at the table will each win $12,755 – and there’s a room share as well: $89,288 split among all of the remaining Hold’em players in the room as the Jackpot hand occurred!
Congratulations!
