This morning was bright and sunny, though a little chilly, but there’s nothing like a Jackpot to make a chilly day a little warmer and a sunny day a little brighter!
The action that brought about the Secondary Jackpot was on table 4, which at the time was a $1/$2 table. Preflop, the action was limped around to Shawn S in the small blind, who raised to $16. There were two callers: Stephane S (utg+1) and Ryan W (cutoff). The dealer laid out the flop.
Flop:
Shawn led out for $20 and both of the other players made the call.
Turn:
Shawn led out once again, this time for $85. Stephane raised to $200 and Ryan came over the top with an all in raise to $374. The action was back on Shawn, who announced that he had to check his horoscope for advice – and made the call. Stephane stayed in as well, and action moved to the river.
River:
The board wasn’t dry, but it wasn’t particularly wet, either. The turn cashed in some straight possibilities, and the river card got any diamond draw all the way there – but with a pair on board and connected flush cards – even a flush to the Ace wouldn’t be 100% comfortable.
The reality was even richer than that! Upon seeing the river, Shawn rose up in excitement and smashed his cards – – on the felt: “I’ve got quads!”
Stephane had turned the nuts with his but by the river he was in rough shape and tabled his hand in disgust. Ryan, for his part, clearly hadn’t yet seen his straight flush (in diamonds), and it took him a few seconds to table his hand… at which time the rest of the table freaked out: they had just hit the Secondary BBJ! The Jackpot Winner was Shawn S, whose quads had been out-drawn by Ryan’s straight flush (holding ).
The secondary jackpot is fixed at $25,000, with 50% going to the loser of the hand, 25% (and the pot) to the winner of the hand, and 25% shared between the remaining players at the table. Congratulations to all!
