For several years now, Thursday and Sunday evenings have been set aside for satellite tournaments that give players the opportunity to play their way into major events for a relatively small buy-in amount. These satellites have been a huge success, and hundreds of seats to major events such as the WPT® Montreal have been awarded via satellite tournaments. Recently, however, some have pointed out that satellites do not start at their advertised time, as many players opt to wait until the end of the late registration period to jump in. Few players buy-in early, but are then forced to wait for 30, 60, or even 90 minutes before the tournament can start. This is due to the fact that we would delay the tourney by up to 2 x 15 minute periods if we did not have the minimum amount of runners present at the scheduled start time (# of […]

The $1.22M Jackpot has been won!
One of the elements that was responsible for a ton of the buzz at Playground Poker Club as the World Cup of Cards began was the huge Bad Beat Jackpot. The Primary BBJ had grown to over $1.22M over the past several months of cash game play… until August 17th at about 5:30pm, when the huge jackpot was finally hit as a runner runner straight flush in spades to the Queen beat Quad Jacks. The Primary BBJ at Playground Poker Club is a progressive jackpot that starts at $250,000. The minimum qualifying hand starts at Quad Aces and goes down every 4 weeks to a minimum of Quad 8s. The qualifying hand had been at that lowest qualifying hand level for many weeks and the Jackpot kept growing. According to the players, the hand was played pretty slowly. Preflop, there was a raise and two calls, so three players saw […]

The minimum qualifying hand started off at Quad Aces, but after such a long time, it has now gone down to Quad Fives the smallest minimum qualifying hand offered in this promotion! Cash game action has ramped up even more than usual as the jackpot has increased, which creates a virtuous circle the more players at the tables, the quicker the Jackpot amount goes up!
