July Power Weekend – SIX-PLUS has arrived!
July has arrived, and with it the second half of 2018. The WSOP-C Playground is less than 2 months away, and at Playground Poker Club, we are getting ready for the last Power Weekend before the World Series of Poker comes to town. The July Power Weekend will run from July 26th to July 30th, and it includes a little bit of everything! This Power Weekend comes with a very exciting novelty. This month, the SIX-PLUS variant makes its way to the Playground felts! The game is said to have originated in Macau in high stakes circles, 4 years ago. Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan helped to popularize it, but the game’s rapid growth in popularity is mostly due to its action-inducing properties. SIX-PLUS is played with decks of 36 cards. All 2s, 3s, 4s and 5s are removed, making almost every hand look playable. When you jump in, be […]

The next Playground Power Weekend is coming quickly. Events will run from June 27th to July 2nd, and the weekend will include 10 tournaments with accessible buy-in levels, popular formats, and over $175,000 in Guarantees. The cornerstone event of the June Power Weekend is the return of the Strangers in the Night Poker Fundraiser. The buy-in for the tournament is $150 + $25, but the $25 isn’t a normal tournament fee – this amount will be collected as a donation to the Strangers in the Night Charity Initiative. With a $50,000 Prize Pool guarantee, this is must-play event! The other show-stopper event in the June Power Weekend is the $330 Tag Team Event – yes, it’s back! Today’s Power Weekend action: $60 Rebuy
It’s a beautiful Friday morning, and at 12:00pm, the next event in the May Power Weekend will get underway in the Tournament Hall here at Playground Poker Club. Today’s tournament is a $50 + $10 NL Hold’em Rebuy tournament with a $4,000 guaranteed prize pool. Rebuy tournaments are fairly rare in 2018, at least in “normal” tournaments. They’re still very common for satellites – but the bump to the prize pool represented by the unlimited rebuys that are possible during the first 4 levels could be extremely interesting – not to mention the action that the format encourages! Players will start with 15,000 in tournament chips and blind levels are 20 minutes long in this tournament. As mentioned above, unlimited rebuys are available at the player’s seat during the first 4 levels of play. Good luck to everyone playing today! The May Power Weekend is just around the corner!
From May 17th to 21st we’re hosting 9 great tournaments with accessible buy-in levels and some fantastic guarantees. The weekend kicks off on Thursday at Noon with a “3 Lives” tournament, and during the weekend you’ll also have the chance to play in a few rare – but very fun – tournament formats. There are 3 bounty events – two Hold’em and one PLO – plus two rebuy events, and, for poker purists, there’s one of the best tournament formats around – the Shootout. In this format, everyone who moves on to the money has to win their entire table first! All in all, there are a total of $165,000 in guaranteed prize pools over 5 days. The May Power Weekend also includes the 3rd edition of the Playground 200, with its huge $100,000 guarantee! Featuring 3 Live Day 1s, the Playground 200 has become the gold standard in low-buy-in/huge-prizepool […]
Welcome to Day 1B of the MILLIONS Turbo
Today is the second of two starting days in Event #5 in the MILLIONS North America – the MILLIONS Turbo. As is the case with all MILLIONS events, players start with 1,000,000 tournament chips, but in the Turbo, blind levels are just 30 minutes long. This means that the tournament will play through 18 levels on Day 1, and it also adds up to an extended late-registration period – you can enter or re-enter the event until the end of the break following level 10. Yesterday there were 387 entries in the event, a number we expect will take a significant jump today, as usual for a multi-starting-day event at Playground. Remember that even if you played and booked a stack to Day 2 yesterday, you are permitted to take another shot today – the tournament is best-stack forward to Day 2. Any additional stacks that are not used will […]
The Finale is underway
Event #6 in the MILLIONS North America is the $10,000 + $300 MILLIONS Finale event. As the last large buy-in event of the festival, and the only one featuring unlimited re-entries AND a $1,000,000 guarantee, it is enjoying a great deal of popularity among the players that have spent the past week or more here at Playground Poker Club. Some of the players in the field so far include Ari Engel, Chance Kornuth, Super High Roller Champ Christopher Kruk, Jonathan Duhamel, and Alex Foxen. Play will continue through 8 levels today and registration remains open all day today plus through the first 4 levels (plus breaks) in Day 2. This post was published first on this Playground Event Blog: MILLIONS North America 2018.
Day 3 is ready to take off
At 12:00pm today, Day 3 in the MILLIONS North America Main Event is set to begin. This $5,000 + $300 NL Hold’em Re-entry tournament featured a total of 6 Day 1s and 3 Day 2s – including the initial Day 1 and Day 2 that were held at the Deerfoot Inn & Casino in Calgary. There were a total of 1,954 entries in the tournament, and going into Day 2, just 285 remain. And now, for the first time, the entire field will be brought together to play down to the money, which will be reached at 250 players remaining. The best-known players are quite well distributed around the Tournament Hall to begin, but there are some tables to watch. Examples include Table 68 with two 15-million-chip players (Keith Donovan and Thomas Lefort), Table 28 featuring Mukul Pahuja, Brian Yoon, and Kristen Bicknell, and Table 56 which includes Jason Duval, […]
