The WSOP-C took over Playground from August 22 to September 2 in its second annual edition and was another resounding success! Thousands of players from across the continent descended on Playground to take part in the seven-event series that awarded over $4,000,000 in prize money. Both tournament and cash game tables were packed to capacity throughout this event that saw every tournament surpass its prize pool guarantee and hundreds of thousands of dollars awarded on cash game tables through a combination of the Bad Beat Jackpot and the Sizzling Summer cash game promotions. The action got a major jump-start in the early days of the event when a Bad Beat Jackpot awarded $305,351 to some lucky NL Hold’em cash game players on the morning of August 25. Add to that the prizes totalling more than $150,000 given away over the course of the WSOP-C Playground as part of the […]

Alexander Allison takes down the Closer!
The $300 + $30 Closer was a hell of an event, but it has finally come to an end. After bringing in 1,091 total entries over the course of four Day 1s, Day 2 was an action-packed event from start to finish. Over the course of almost 14 hours of play, our Day 2 qualifying field of 220 players reduced itself down to just two: Alexander Allison and and Abram Logasy. In the end, Alexander ended up taking it down, earning himself a fantastic prize, bragging rights, and of course the very cool WSOP-C Playground championship ring. Congratulations Alex, aka “Cheese9”! You are the 2019 $300 + $30 Closer champ! $300 + $30 Closer Champion: Alexander Allison, $50,000 Last Hand of Play The heads up match between the last two players didn’t last as long as it took to go from three players to two, but it still took well […]
The Main Event Champion: Joe Pellegrino!
Joe Pellegrino, on his first live tournament ever, managed to overcome a shark-infested final table and claimed the WSOP-C Playground Main Event title! The amazingly popular series was, again this year, a tremendous success. The Main Event itself was no exception. It presented four starting flights, including an online flight that featured a novelty: the Online Day 1 & 2. Those who played it went through both Day 1 and Day 2 in a single flight, allowing them to secure a prize before making the trip to Playground, an excellent proposal for out-of-towners. Players from Days 1A, 1B and 1C merged into one of two Day 2s: Day 2A and Day 2B. Finally, on Day 3, the whole field was brought together in our club to play until the final table, or the end of level 27, whichever came first. The huge number of total entries made it easy to […]

Our WSOP-C Playground first ring winner: Éric Laliberté!
The Colossus managed to round up 3,538 entries, accumulated over 13 starting flights. This number allowed the event to surpass last year’s turnout by 35 entries, beating our own Playground record for biggest tournament field ever in the process! 509 players returned for Day 2, and 9 players came back for today’s final. Today, runners came out of the gate roaring. Eliminations were quick, and at the first break, after two hours of play, the table was reduced to three players: Morgan Aceto, Miguel Cholette and Éric Laliberté. Cholette fell to Aceto’s gutshot draw, which filled on the river, and that left two players with somewhat equal stacks for the dual. As soon as the heads-up match started, Morgan Aceto applied maximum pressure on Éric Laliberté, who couldn’t figure out how to respond. Laliberté’s stack quickly eroded and soon enough, Aceto was enjoying a 2 to 1 lead. The only […]

Event #4 of the July Power Weekend, the $100 + $10 Deepstack Re-entry, proved to be a tremendously popular event. The field of 147 entries (including 28 re-entries) built a prize pool that greatly exceeded the $5,000 guarantee and filled the tournament hall with energized tournament players on the hunt for a big payout. The early levels saw a steady flow of players moving in and out of the tournament, many of whom made their way back to the cage to re-enter. In most cases, the players sprinted out of the gate this afternoon and never looked back, keeping up the high-paced action all the way to the late stages. The only time things slowed down was for the money bubble when 20 players remained. The hand-for-hand play lasted for more than an entire blind level, as several short stacks managed to win their all ins, but it was eventually […]
