WPT Montreal Recap
The 2019 edition of the WPT Montreal , the last major festival of the year, kept up with the WPT’s winning tradition and was a resounding success! The series, which ran from October 20 to November 4, included seven official WPT events as well as four Playground events and a plethora of satellites that allowed many players to take a shot at the big buy-in events for only a fraction of the cost. In all, the official WPT events awarded $5,970,632 in prizes! The $500 + $50 WPT500 brought out an impressive field. This event guaranteed a prize pool of $1,066,000, awarding a million in cash and 20 $3,000 + $300 seats to the Main Event. With such great value on the line, it came as no surprise to see this event collect 2,135 entries throughout its 13 starting flights. When play finally concluded on Day 3, Bradley Smith emerged […]
Women’s Series Event #1 Champion: Crystal Abouhanna
The first open event of the Playground Women’s Series guaranteed prize pool of $5,000 but awarded far more! The tournament attracted a total of 80 entries, including 12 re-entries, which helped to more than double the prize pool guarantee and put the top 10 finishers in the money. In addition to the cash prizes for each open event, the top 5 finishers in each open tournament receive a direct entry into the Final. The top 10 point earners for the series (not including those who qualify automatically) will also receive an entry in the Final. Throughout the afternoon, the atmosphere in the tournament hall was friendly but competitive, and there was some top-notch poker on display. The tournament structure allowed for deep-stacked play, which became obvious when there were two tables remaining and the average chip stack was nearly 30 big blinds. Play slowed down considerably as the money bubble […]

And our Women’s Event winner is…
It didn’t take long! After less than 30 minutes of heads-up play, Ginette Langlais became the September 2019 Power Weekend’s Women’s Event champion! Congratulations to her and her excellent runner-up Louise Brouillette. Both played a fantastic final table, but it was really Ginette’s game from start to finish, having gobbled up the chip stacks of a few of the women at the final table early on and never looking back. Ginette’s first place finish earned her $1,642. Congratulations! $100 + $10 Women’s Event Champion: Ginette Langlais – $1,642 Final hand of play: The final hand was a classic preflop shove, with Ginette leading the way and Louise calling shortly after. Unsurprisingly, Louise’s did not fare well against Ginette’s . Either way, it was a convivial and spirited tournament from start to finish, with laughter and good cheer present throughout. That’s why it’s no surprise that the runner-up was happy to […]
Boissonneault takes down the Re-entry
Event #3 of the September Power Weekend, the $100 + $10 Re-entry, was a fun-filled affair that brought out a field of 132 entries. The players in attendance took advantage of the unlimited re-entry format early and often, which put a massive amount of chips in play. And those chips were put to use without hesitation from the beginning to the end of this single-day event. The early levels saw many spots where players were happy to take their chances pre-flop, with an abundance of multi-way pre-flop all ins. There was a brief lull in the action following the end of the late registration and re-entry period before the action returned to the frenetic pace seen at the outset of the tournament. The result was a rapidly shrinking field that reached the money before anyone expected. Even the money bubble, a moment where many tournaments grind to a virtual halt, […]
Ron G. becomes the PLO Bounty Re-entry champion
Event #2, $150 + $20 + $50 PLO Bounty Re-entry tournament was a fun filled tournament, with plenty of action for the usual suspects who love to play poker with four cards in their hand. When late registration came to a close, there were 44 entries (including 10 re-entries), allowing the prize pool to go way above the original $6,000 guarantee. Ron G. loves to play PLO, however when he started on the final table, he had the second lowest stack. He knows the game well and was able to start to build up his stack, as he watched the eliminations on the table take place. After losing Alphonsus Kiwook Yoon in third place, play went heads-up between Arthur W. and Ron G., and with both players having almost the identical chip stacks they asked the floor to pause the clock to allow them to discuss a deal. Ron G. […]
