Event #4 of the July Power Weekend, the $100 + $10 Deepstack Re-entry, proved to be a tremendously popular event. The field of 147 entries (including 28 re-entries) built a prize pool that greatly exceeded the $5,000 guarantee and filled the tournament hall with energized tournament players on the hunt for a big payout.
The early levels saw a steady flow of players moving in and out of the tournament, many of whom made their way back to the cage to re-enter. In most cases, the players sprinted out of the gate this afternoon and never looked back, keeping up the high-paced action all the way to the late stages. The only time things slowed down was for the money bubble when 20 players remained. The hand-for-hand play lasted for more than an entire blind level, as several short stacks managed to win their all ins, but it was eventually brought to an end in a battle of the blinds following a pre-flop all in.
Once the field reached the money, the action returned to the frantic pace seen in the early levels, which quickly brought about the final table. Even at the final table, the players kept the pedal to the metal. There was a brief pause for ICM negotiations that saw the four finalists divide up the remaining prize pool, while leaving a little extra for the eventual winner.
Nassim K had flown under the radar for most of the tournament. He managed his chips carefully and was fortunate enough to have good timing in the late stages. He seized the chip lead from longtime tournament leader Manfred Gunther when two tables remained and only distanced himself from the rest of the players from there. It proved to be Nassim’s night, as he steamrolled the final table to claim victory. Congratulations!
