There is always a decisive point in every player’s path when it’s crucial to seize the moment and scoop chips. For Gaetan Laperriere, we were lucky enough to be on the spot for one of these game-changing moments.
With blinds at 2K/4K+2K, utg Marcella Iacovella raised it to 8,500. Every player after him called, but big blind Richard Berenbaum went all-in for 48,500. This made initial raiser Iacovella fold, as well as Pei Wu, who had been the first to call Iacovella, inadvertently creating interesting odds for the rest of the players. On the button, Patrick Leduc, who covered every player in the hand, shoved all in and Gaetan Laperriere snap called, pushing all of his 53,500 stack forward.
With no more action possible, the dealer instructed all the players to table their hands.
Patrick Leduc:
Gaetan Laperriere
Richard Berenbaum
As Patrick & Richard were questioning Gaetan’s quick call with his unsuited connectors, the flop came out: and put an end to all discussions. Straight for Gaetan, right on the flop! Both his opponents were now drawing dead, with the exception of Richard, who could still end up with a higher straight if he got runner-runner ten and jack. That unlikely scenario was crushed when the turn and river came out: , awarding the considerable pot to Gaetan. He also picked up a $100 bounty chip from Richard, who was sent to the rail in 43rd position. The loss put a dent in Patrick Leduc’s stack, but he promised to make it back.
