Domenico Agatiello is the Event #10 Champion

    May 7, 2019 | 5:51am | Playground

Tonight’s Event #10: $100 + $20 + $100 6-Max 50/50 Bounty tournament was the last event of the Playground 2019 May Power Weekend event.  And what an event it has been.  Let’s take a look at all the champions:

    • Event #1: $100 + $10 Mix Max Re-entry: Jonathan Jette-Prince
    • Event #2: $150 + $25 Strangers in the night: Adam Cader
    • Event #3: $150 + $20 + $50 PLO Bounty Re-entry: Goran Brestovac
    • Event #4: $100 + $10 Deepstack Turbo: Jonathon Mclean
    • Event #5: $100 + $10 Women’s event: Lori Sanderson
    • Event #6: $150 + $15 Freezout: Philip Fleury-Maisonneuve
    • Event #7: $200 + $20 Deepstack Re-entry: Yan Touchette
    • Event #8: $100 + $20 + $100 50/50 Bounty: Pierre-Luc Bourgeois
    • Event #9: $100 + $10 6-Max Re-entry: Benoît Desbiens
    • Event #10: $100 + $20 + $100 50/50 6-Max Bounty: Domenico Agatiello

No less than 170 players showed up and got in on the fun. Bounty tournaments usually promise to generate fast paced action and impressive fluctuations in terms of chip leaders. Tonight was no exception. The action was hard, intense, and unforgiving. The bounty chips exchanged hands at an expeditious pace and the field shrunk quickly and steadily.

Domenico Agatiello took an early lead but it was not long before his leader status was severely threatened by Glen Duncan and Frederic Morin who took control of the chips for a while. A lucky break for Gaetan Laperriere catapulted him to the top of the leaderboard midway through the tournament, and he kept on scooping chips for a while. But then, a bad call made him loose a sizable chunk of his assets, which prevented him from even reaching the final table. All the while, Domenico was slowly gaining momentum, and by the time the bubble burst, he seemed unstoppable behind his behemoth stack. A stack he took all the way to the final table. Once on the final table though, a new contender had shown his face; Ruben Perceval had quietly built up his stack and now stood almost neck to neck with Agatiello in terms of chips. Together, they owned almost half the chips on the table.

The action on the final table hit a stalemate for almost one hour, until Joseph Hanna was sent to the rail in 7th position. That started a chain reaction of eliminations at regular intervals. Domenico was card dead for most of the final table; waking up with the right hands at the right time. His chip leader status did not go challenged and the heads up action was short lived. Ruben did manage to win enough pots to be a menace but, in the end, his luck ran out. Domenico finished it with pocket jacks that rivered a straight, taking home a staggering 18 bounty chips in the process.
Ruben: Ace of Clubs 10 of Clubs
Domenico: Jack of Spades Jack of Diamonds
Board: 2 of Hearts Queen of Clubs 10 of Hearts 8 of Diamonds 9 of Clubs

    Congratulations to all the winners!

Dave had a roller coaster ride on the final table, with many ups and downs. When he received 7 of Diamonds 7 of Spades , he did the only he could do: he went all-in. Ruben Percival was only too happy to call, holding: Ace of Spades 3 of Spades because if he was to play heads up against Agatiello, he would need Dave’s chips.

The over-card riddled flop did not please Dave one bit Jack of Clubs 8 of Diamonds 3 of Hearts The King of Diamonds on the turn changed nothing, but the 3 of Clubs on the river changed everything. With trip three’s, Ruben made short work of Dave’s chips, sending the young man to the rail in 3rd position.

Now the stage is set for heads up action between Ruben Perceval with approximately 1,800,000 chips and Domenico Agatiello, sitting on 2,400,000 chips.

    Dave Jeanneau-Cyr, 3rd position – $2,000

After a bumpy ride at best on the final table, Daniel Soussan needed no more than Ace of Clubs 4 of Diamonds to go all in preflop. He got one call from small blind Domenico Agatiello, who showed Jack of Hearts King of Diamonds.

Board: 5 of Spades 2 of Spades King of Clubs 5 of Diamonds 2 of Diamonds In the end, the flop was all Agatiello needed to send Daniel home in 4th position.

The three remaining players settle in for the last stretch. Agatiello is still the chip leader with 2,125,000 chips, just about 50% of the total chips in play. Ruben Perceval is hovering at approximately 1,375,000 and Dave Jeanneau-Cyr brings up the rear with 750,000

    Daniel Soussan, 4th position – $1,500

When he arrived at the final table, Tyrone Baskin was short stack with $156,000, a little more than 10% of chip leader Agatiello.

Early on he managed to triple-up and make some headway. His efforts were for a good cause and he was able to outlast Hammoud and Hanna to nab the 5th position.

In his last hand, Tyrone looked down at his hole cards and when he saw pocket nines he only took a few seconds before going all-in. Agatiello, who had been extremely quiet since the onset of the final table, was right there with him. Both men tabled their hands and Agatiello was not happy.

Tyrone Baskin: 9 of Spades 9 of Diamonds
Domenico Agatiello: 8 of Hearts 8 of Clubs

Completely dominated, on the Jack of Hearts King of Diamonds Ace of Spades flop, Agatiello was already pushing out some chips to pay Baskin. But then the 8 of Spades made an appearance, then a 5 of Hearts on the river. The pot was awarded to Agatiello and his trip eights, apparently still running good even after his lethargic fold’em session.

Obviously disappointed, Baskin nevertheless went around the table to shake hands with his opponents, wishing them good luck.

    Tyrone Baskin, 5th position, $1,130

Hicham Hammound hits the rail in 6th position

Dave Jeanneau-Cyr wasted no time going all-in from utg for 450,000. Ruben Perceval folded, but Hicham Hammoud shoved all-in under with 380,000. The other 3 players folded and both gentlemen tabled their hands:
Hicham: Ace of Hearts Queen of Spades
Dave: Jack of Spades Jack of Diamonds

Unfortunately for Hicham, he dodged all his outs on the board: 8 of Hearts 10 of Spades 2 of Clubs 4 of Spades King of Clubs and Dave’s fish hooks held their ground to send Hicham home in 6th position

    Hicham Hammound, 6th position – $850

Joseph Hanna out in 7th position

Joseph was waiting patiently for the right hand. With approximately 4 big blinds left, Joseph was all-in as soon as he saw his hole cards: Jack of Diamonds King of Diamonds. Tyrone Baskin was ready to try to take him out and called with Ace of Clubs 2 of Spades.
The flop did nothing much for either player: Queen of Spades 4 of Clubs 3 of Clubs but the Jack of Clubs on the turn was a sweet/sour combo for Joseph who was happy to see the jack, but not overjoyed by it’s suit. His instincts proved correct when the 8 of Clubs appeared on the turn, producing a flush for Baskin, and effectively ending Joseph’s tournament.

    Joseph Hanna, 7th position – $640

Michael Frenkel was eliminated in 8th position, at the hands of Domenico Agatiello, who is on fire tonight. With the bust out of Frenkel, and as is customary in a 6-max tournament, there was a full seating redraw for the 7-handed final table.

The Tournament Director gave the familiar final table instructions to all the players and the action has just resumed.

One of the particularities of the 6-Max format is that when the tournament gets to the two last tables, they get short very quickly. With 12 players left, there were four back-to-back eliminations in a relatively short period.

First to go was Jonatan Goyette-Gagnon, at the hands of Tyrone Baskin. The next player to hit the rail was Nicola Martella in 11th position. Serge Roy was not far behind and quickly busted out in 10th place. Finally, Pierre Marquette was sent home in 9th place.

With 8 players left, four on each table, the blinds are lashing out at the smaller stacks and there is no mercy in sight, except to reach the final table and 7-handed action.

    Jonathan Goyette-Gagnon, 12th position – $250

    Nicola Martella, 11th position – $270

    Serge Roy, 10th position – $270

The players took their 3rd break between levels 17 and 18, which gave us a chance to survey the field. Here are the full chip counts of all 15 players left.

Domenico Agatiello is a few thousand short of a million chips, and has more than twice as many chips as Tyrone Baskin, his closest rival. He is on fire and not taking any hostages.

There is always a decisive point in every player’s path when it’s crucial to seize the moment and scoop chips. For Gaetan Laperriere, we were lucky enough to be on the spot for one of these game-changing moments.

With blinds at 2K/4K+2K, utg Marcella Iacovella raised it to 8,500. Every player after him called, but big blind Richard Berenbaum went all-in for 48,500. This made initial raiser Iacovella fold, as well as Pei Wu, who had been the first to call Iacovella, inadvertently creating interesting odds for the rest of the players. On the button, Patrick Leduc, who covered every player in the hand, shoved all in and Gaetan Laperriere snap called, pushing all of his 53,500 stack forward.
With no more action possible, the dealer instructed all the players to table their hands.

Patrick Leduc: 3 of Diamonds 3 of Clubs
Gaetan Laperriere 10 of Hearts Jack of Clubs
Richard Berenbaum Ace of Clubs 5 of Spades

As Patrick & Richard were questioning Gaetan’s quick call with his unsuited connectors, the flop came out: 9 of Spades King of Diamonds Queen of Clubs and put an end to all discussions. Straight for Gaetan, right on the flop! Both his opponents were now drawing dead, with the exception of Richard, who could still end up with a higher straight if he got runner-runner ten and jack. That unlikely scenario was crushed when the turn and river came out: 8 of Diamonds 6 of Spades, awarding the considerable pot to Gaetan. He also picked up a $100 bounty chip from Richard, who was sent to the rail in 43rd position. The loss put a dent in Patrick Leduc’s stack, but he promised to make it back.

The 46 remaining players are coming back from the break.

Frederic Morin and Glen Duncan are neck to neck in the lead positions, with 252,000 for Morin, and 246,000 for Duncan. Both players are way ahead of the next two leaderboard contenders Nicolas Majdalani (182,000) and Nicola Martella (179,500) by a wide margin.

The heat is still on and the eliminations are still being seen at steady, if somewhat slower pace.
