Event #3 of the September Power Weekend, the $100 + $10 Re-entry, was a fun-filled affair that brought out a field of 132 entries.

The players in attendance took advantage of the unlimited re-entry format early and often, which put a massive amount of chips in play. And those chips were put to use without hesitation from the beginning to the end of this single-day event. The early levels saw many spots where players were happy to take their chances pre-flop, with an abundance of multi-way pre-flop all ins.

There was a brief lull in the action following the end of the late registration and re-entry period before the action returned to the frenetic pace seen at the outset of the tournament. The result was a rapidly shrinking field that reached the money before anyone expected. Even the money bubble, a moment where many tournaments grind to a virtual halt, came and went quickly thanks to a proposal to pay an extra position by removing a small portion of the first and second place prizes. The proposal received unanimous consent almost immediately, and the field was reduced to the final table before long.

At the final table, the four finalists – Dgianni Di-Re, Martin Fortin, Richard Sysko and Samuel Boissonneault – agreed to an ICM chop of the remaining prize pool. The deal saw each player lock up a healthy payout, with the lion’s share going to Di-Re, who was the chip leader at the time. The terms of the deal kept $400 aside for the eventual winner. Fortin and Sysko busted shortly thereafter, leaving Boissonneault and Di-Re to duke it out in a heads-up battle. But that battle, in keeping with the theme for this tournament, ended in a quick finish. Boissonneault had overtaken Di-Re for the chip lead, and he woke up with the best possible starting hand at the best possible moment. Both players moved all in, and Boissoneault’s pocket aces were in great shape against Di-Re’s in the final hand of the tournament. And the aces prevailed, giving Boissoneault the win, an extra $400 and the bragging rights that come with being a Power Weekend event champion. Congratulations!
