Event #4 of the WSOP-C Playground was the $5,000 + $300 Super High Roller that featured a $250,000 guaranteed prize pool. After the late registration and re-entry period came to a close, there were 78 entries in total that helped to smash the guarantee and create a $378,300 prize pool, which paid the top 9 finishers, offering a min-cash of $12,000 and a top prize of $110,000. Some of the top players from around North America participated in this event and the competition was tough. Play resumed for Day 2 today and one by one the eliminations happened until finally the final table was formed, with none other than Toronto pro and Playground regular Mike Leah in the lead. Leah ran into a bad hand when he flopped top pair and made trips on the river, only to find out that his opponent, Jon VanFleet, had flopped a set and […]

Our WSOP-C Playground first ring winner: Éric Laliberté!
The Colossus managed to round up 3,538 entries, accumulated over 13 starting flights. This number allowed the event to surpass last year’s turnout by 35 entries, beating our own Playground record for biggest tournament field ever in the process! 509 players returned for Day 2, and 9 players came back for today’s final. Today, runners came out of the gate roaring. Eliminations were quick, and at the first break, after two hours of play, the table was reduced to three players: Morgan Aceto, Miguel Cholette and Éric Laliberté. Cholette fell to Aceto’s gutshot draw, which filled on the river, and that left two players with somewhat equal stacks for the dual. As soon as the heads-up match started, Morgan Aceto applied maximum pressure on Éric Laliberté, who couldn’t figure out how to respond. Laliberté’s stack quickly eroded and soon enough, Aceto was enjoying a 2 to 1 lead. The only […]
The first BBJ of the WSOP-C!
As players have come to expect, major events at Playground seem to have a way of bringing out Bad Beat Jackpots. And this edition of the WSOP-C has lived up to that reputation by delivering the Bad Beat Jackpot! The fateful hand took place this morning on a 1/2 table. The action started with some folds from early position before three players limped in. But the limping was put to an end by Pierre-Luc Cote who bumped it up to $12 from the button. Daniel Leddy, in the small blind, then put in a raise to $30. The raises chased a few players out of the pot before the action came back to the original limper, Peter Mott, who put in a raise of his own, coming over the top and moving all in for $191. Two more players got out of the way before Cote moved all in for […]

Great night for a BBJ
Last night at 11:48PM, our Bad Beat Jackpot Omaha was hit! The Jackpot had grown to a nice $69,999, more than enough to have a significant impact on the evening of all players on the $2/$2 PLO table where it happened. The event took place on table 15, in the cashier section where most PLO games are played. Eight players were going at it straddle style, and this hand was no exception. The $5 straddle was called once before Danielle made it $20 to go. Nathaly was the first to call, and four other players did the same, creating a juicy pot of $120. Flop: Five players checked, but Nathaly couldn’t give the crowd a free card. She threw in a modest $30 bet, and the action was folded around to Danielle who made the call. Turn: Both ladies checked, seemingly projecting weakness, but the observers were still hoping. The […]

6-Max Bounty Champion: Eddie Daldalian
The $150 + $20 + $50 6-Max Bounty tournament attracted 175 players who started with 25,000 chips and played through 20 minute levels while trying to knock each other out and collect a $50 bounty each time they scored a knockout. There was a guaranteed prize pool of $15,000, however, with the extra large field, the prize pool swelled to $25,200. Play was action packed all night long and throughout the room you could hear the dealers on the different tables continuously announcing “all in.” When play was down to just three tables, there was literally an all in every hand along with an elimination. All of the sudden, before you could blink an eye, the seven handed final table was formed. Upon reaching the final table, the players requested the ICM chop numbers. After watching how fast the last 10 eliminations took place, the players figured that it might […]
6-Max Re-entry Champion: Remi Bourque
After the elimination of Brigitte Metivier, the two finalists for the $100 + $10 6-Max Re-entry were in a hurry to finish up. They discussed it before the cards were dealt, and decided to shove all in blind no matter what, since they had both had an excellent day, and the winner bonus of $200 – a marginal addition to their already impressive scores for the day. As it turned out, not one but both players were disappointed with their cards when they flipped them over. Remi had a , and Giovanni a . The board was dealt out with neither of them hitting. The nine-high takes it! Congratulations to these Monday afternoon warriors on an excellent day of poker. $100 + $10 6-Max Re-entry Champion: Remi Bourque: $1,905 ($1,705 ICM chop + $200 winner bonus) Last Hand of Play: Second Place: Giovanni Petrella, $1,970 There was no love lost […]
