To follow up Hot Seat Mondays, our next cash game promotion will be spreading the action around the room. On Tuesdays, instead of turning things up, we’re going to make it rain down… cash! Cash Splash Tuesdays will give lots of players a chance to get their share of the added value because instead of just one winner every 30 minutes, three No Limit Hold’em tables will be randomly selected every 20 minutes to be part of the cash splash! That’s right, we will be splashing $50 on three different tables, three times an hour! Cash Splash Tuesdays will have our No Limit Hold’em players wallowing in chips. Jackpots aren’t only for festivals!
Just because there are a lot of Jackpots hit during big poker festivals doesn’t mean that’s the ONLY time they are won. A regular Wednesday night is clearly a fine time for a Jackpot as well – just ask the players on Table 3 in the Original poker room. The table was full and the button was on seat 5 when the action began. The player in seat 6 had just sat down and chose to buy the button, putting in the small and big blinds, and the cards were dealt. The first two players to act both folded, and then Mohamad A in seat 9 limped in. After one more fold, the remaining players all called and there was a check to close the preflop action. The flop was dealt with 6 players still in the hand. Flop: Action checked around on the flop, and then the turn was […]
The big blind ante is here to stay!
We are happy to announce that after careful review of the overall player appreciation of the big blind ante during the WPT Montreal, Playground has decided to adopt it for all Playground daily tournaments and mini-series. As a reminder, the big blind ante is a consolidated ante just like the button ante, except that it is asked from the player in the big blind position. For more information on the history and application of the big blind ante throughout the world, read The big blind ante makes its way to Playground!, a news piece that was published just before the WPT Montreal, announcing the application of this new rule during the festival. Moving forward, the big blind ante will be in use in all of our tournaments. It will be halved in 2 cases only: For the whole duration of all 6-Max tournaments. When the field of any tournament drops […]

A WPTDeepStacks Champion has been crowned!
Event #3 of the 2018 WPT Montreal was the $1,500 + $150 WPTDeepStacks event. Today was Day 3, and after 12 levels and more than 14 hours of play we finally crowned a champion. David Quang found himself in heads up play with Daniel Dubeau, with David Quang eventually taking it down and earning himself 1st place and $222,000 in cash. The final hand was a classic, with both players all in preflop. David had , while Daniel had . The flop was dealt , and with that, the tournament came to a close! Daniel Dubeau, our 2nd place finisher, earned himself a very respectable $150,000. His consistent, savvy play was evident throughout all three days of the event. However, while we congratulate both of our finalists for their excellent play, in the end, only one can be one winner. Well done David! you’ve earned the title of WPTDeepStacks Champion. […]
Our PLO Champion: Lynn Phan!
Event #6 was a $1,100 buy-in PLO 1-day event with unlimited re-entries until the beginning of level 9. 104 entries joined the tournament, 28 of which came from re-entries. The action was relentless. Players were going all out, gunning for one of the 13 prizes on the board. Piotr Siwiec came out of the gates like a thoroughbred and held on to his lead for the majority of the evening, until Frédéric Normand took it from him. Both players made the final table, but Siwiec left it early. Normand, however, after dwindling down to about 65K when 2 tables were left, came back with a vengeance and enjoyed the lead for a while at a 4-handed final table. Lynn Phan took that from him, and kept climbing, doing an excellent chip leader job. The pressure was constant, and she took out Frédéric Normand, then François Goulet. In the end, it was […]
Mehrabian takes down the $550 6-Max event
Sasan Mehrabian has emerged qs the winner of Event #7 in the WPT Montreal Festival. He had already locked up a prize of $13,360 when the deal was made, but there was still another $7,500 to play for – plus a great WPT event trophy! Notwithstanding the deal that had been made, and the 5:1 chip advantage Sasan enjoyed, both players were working hard to secure the extra payout, and the heads up match between Sasan and Jean-Luc Desormeaux lasted for another 45 minutes. Eventually, though, Sasan called from the sb and Jean-Luc checked his bb. The flop came . Jean-Luc was first to act and decided to shove. Sasan covered him by a lot at this point, but it’s never good to double up your opponent when playing hu, so it took him a while to make the call. Jean-Luc: Sasan: The turn was perfect for Sasan’t flush draw: […]
Chabra crowned the High Roller champion!
The WPT Montreal High Roller Event saw a total of 97 entries take place, of which the top 13 players were awarded a payout. The tournament was spread across 3 full days of poker, with the money-bubble bursting at the end of Day 2. A number of poker phenomenons participated in this star-studded field, but in the end it was Ajay Chabra who was the last man standing. He and Tommy Nguyen duelled heads-up for the title, with Ajay starting with the slight chip advantage. Within a few hands Tommy took over the chip lead, and continued to slowly extend it through the first few orbits of play, until Ajay changed gears and chipped his way back to even stack. Ajay then won a huge pot after flopping a straight and letting Tommy take over the betting. He got maximum value out of the hand, finding a full double-up on […]
Patrick Serda is the WPT Montreal Main Event Champion!
In an absolutely stunning hand of poker by both players, Winnipeg’s Patrick Serda has emerged as the winner of the WPT Montreal Main Event! In the end, he had to make the perfect decision to overcome the relentless aggression of Ema Zajmovic – but he made the right decision in a very difficult spot and the victory is his. Patrick started the hand with a slight chip advantage over Ema – 16M to 15M. Ema was on the button/sb and Patrick in the bb. Ema: Patrick: The hole cards didn’t seem to have the makings of the final hand in the event, but there was a long way to go before this hand would come to a conclusion. Ema opened the action with a raise to 500K. Patrick then 3bet to 1.6M – and Ema responded with a 4bet to 3.8M! Patrick made the call. The pot was now 8,000,000 […]

Another festival jackpot!
The WPT Montreal just produced another Bad Beat Jackpot! Last night at 3:15AM, on a full 2$/5$ table, aces full of kings got undone by the board nuts. As is usually the case when these 2 hands hit the Secondary Bad Beat, the action was maxed out before the flop was revealed. The action started slowly: the first 2 players to act limped in, but Philippe Boyer, sitting 3rd to act, raised it to $20. After 2 folds, Wenzhuo Zhang put in $65. David Cadoch, in the second seat to Zhang’s left, went all-in for $133. It looked like it was going to be a 2-player showdown, but Pasquale Pietracupa, the second limper, went all-in himself for $233. Philippe Boyer wasn’t going anywhere, he invested his full $419, and Zhang tagged along. When all 5 community cards were turned – – Philippe Boyer showed the absolute nuts: . He was […]
