Event #4 of the November Power Weekend, the $100 + $10 Deepstack Re-entry, brought out a boisterous field that made a total of 105 entries in this single-day event. This turnout was enough to easily surpass the prize pool guarantee of $8,000, as over $10,000 in prizes was awarded this afternoon. The early portion of this tournament was dominated by Diego Aguilar, who got off to a very fast start and kept the pedal to the metal for as long as he could. Aguilar ran up a huge lead over the field, which allowed him to reach the money, but he ran out of steam in the late stages of play and was eliminated in thirteenth place. Alexandre Dumas flew under the radar for most of the flight. When it came down to the last two tables, it was Dumas’ time to shine. He built up his stack slowly but […]

Playground 500 Champion: Samuel Roussy-Majeau
The Playground 500 was the marquee event of the November Power Weekend. Guaranteed at $100,000, it was sure to put together a great payout table. 166 entries were accounted for over one online Day 1 on partypoker and three live flights at Playground, meaning that players even enjoyed a nice overlay on the prize pool. Nothing like an equity bonus! The online Day 1 brought 19 players together and from that number, only 3 remained, including our champion Samuel Roussy-Majeau, the only player to have re-entered the flight. After all 3 live flights were concluded, a total of 43 players had stacks waiting for them on today’s Day 2. The action went underway at 3:00pm this afternoon and 10 levels of 45 minutes were scheduled, but only 3 players remained after these 10 levels and they understandably agreed to play it out, giving themselves a nice Sunday off to enjoy […]

Another Event, Another BBJ
Earlier in the afternoon yesterday, moments after the Mix Max Re-entry event kicked off the November Power Weekend, the $10,949 Omaha Bad Beat Jackpot was hit! The action happened on table 15, a full 8-handed $2/$2 PLO game. The hand was straddled to $5, and after one caller jumped in, Steve raised it to $15. That bet did not scare many away: six players called! Flop: The action was checked around to the raiser, who continued with a $75 bet, undeterred by the massive opposition. Joseph called. There was one more caller, followed by an all-in bet to $235. That bet was called once, then Steve put in his own stack, worth $302 at that point. Joseph stuck around, and so did the caller of the first all-in. Four players saw the turn, including two all-ins. Turn: The action was quick. Check, all-in, call, locking the third and last pot […]
Mix Max Re-entry Champion: Tristan Lee
Event #1 of the November Power Weekend, the $100 + $10 Mix Max Re-entry, has come to a close following an exciting, see-saw battle between Tristan Lee and Hrair Yapoudjian. These two players were neck-and-neck for the chip lead after 10 levels of play, so it was fitting that these two would duke it out for the win. Yapoudjian held the chip lead at the final table for quite some time, thanks in large part to a dramatic three-way all in where he woke up in position with pocket aces with two all ins in front of him. The aces held, giving Yapoudjian the lion’s share of the chips. But Lee showed his grit and determination by grinding back his chips until the two players were nearly even. Once the stacks were level, Lee and Yapoudjian took turns taking down big pots. This heads-up battle saw some dramatic swings, as […]

The structure of the four open events allows for really deep play throughout the 30-minute blind levels; the women were here to play some serious poker! Thanks to the huge turnout, the $5,000 prize pool guarantee was easily exceeded, awarding $10,975 to the top 11 players, with payouts ranging from $240 to $2,705 for the champion. The top five finishers also received an entry into the Women’s Series Final, which takes place on January 19, 2020, and the top 20% of the field also received Women’s Series leaderboard points. The top 10 players on the leaderboard after the […]

The Omaha BBJ is Hit… Again!
The WPT Montreal may be over, but the Bad Beat Jackpots continue! At 10:14 last night on table 15, with eight players at the table, the $18,059 PLO BBJ went off. The game was $2/$2 PLO and the hand was straddled to $5. Kevin raised it to $20 and two players called the bet: Marco and Arthur. Flop: This flop had a “little bit” for everyone, because when Kevin placed a $50 continuation bet, he found not one, but two calls. And the on the turn (!) was followed by the exact same betting line: a $50 bet by Kevin and two calls. The on the river caused a change in leadership. When Kevin and Marco checked, Arthur went all-in for $90. Kevin went over the top, pushing his own stack valued at $450, but that did not chase Mario away: he called! Kevin: Arthur: Marco: What a showdown! Kevin […]

Halloween delivers the PLO BBJ
It was a dark and stormy night. But this Halloween did not bring spooks or chills, it delivered the treat every player hopes for: the Bad Beat Jackpot. Table 39 was playing eight-handed 2/2 PLO, when the action was opened to $10 from early position. The raise picked up four callers, and the five players each checked on the flop. The turn brought the and another line check. The river was the , and there would be no more checking. Peng Peng, the first to act, led at the pot with a bet of $50. Peng’s bet picked up a call before the action got to Chrishan Sivasundaram, who raised to $200. When the action got back to Peng, he quickly moved all in, which chased the initial caller out of the hand, before Sivasundaram made the snap call and triumphantly tabled his hand. He showed , for flopped straight […]
