Majdalani bags 286,000 chips to lead 31 qualifiers into Day 2

    January 28, 2020 | 3:15am | Playground

The third starting flight of the $150 + $25 Strangers in the Night tournament has just concluded. Day 1C garnered a total of 159 entries, including 35 re-entries, hoping to qualify for Day 2 and continue their quest for a piece of the $75,000 prize pool guarantee.

Bryan Robitaille Fequet took the early lead and remained in first place for the majority of the flight but it was Nicolas Majdalani that ended the night on top. Majdalani went on a hot streak for the last two levels of the night to finish with 286,000 chips. Robitaille Fequet moves to second with a stack of 251,500 and in third is Tony Lei with 244,500.

31 players have advanced to Day 2, which will take place tomorrow evening at 7:00pm. Day 2 will play through 10 levels and Day 3 will play down to a winner.

The last starting flight for Strangers in the Night will take place tomorrow at 11:00am before Day 2 commences later on. Don’t miss out!

Congratulations to all players and good luck in Day 2!

38 remain as the clock runs down on level 13. It’s now or never for a lot of players, small stacks won’t survive long in Day 2 if they don’t double up soon.

Ernest Kelly, one of the former chip leaders, knew his dwindling stack would not suffice so he shoved pre-flop. Nicolas Majdalani followed Kelly’s lead and also shoved. Franco A. thought for a moment before calling to make the hand a three-way battle.

The board ran out 7 of Diamonds Jack of Hearts 9 of Spades King of Diamonds 10 of Spades. Kelly’s Ace of Diamonds 6 of Hearts was of no help and he was eliminated. Franco A. had Ace of Spades King of Hearts but Majdalani’s Queen of Spades Queen of Hearts gave him a straight and the win as he was able to double his stack of 86,000.

Players have returned from the last break of the night, as they are just three levels from advancing to Day 2. The field is down to 46 with an average chip count of 86,400. The chips have been flying back and forth between players as it seems only those on the leaderboard can retain their stack.

Bryan Robitaille Fequet is miles ahead of his competitors with a stack of 241,000 which is currently worth 150 big blinds. Christopher-Elias Kokozaki has moved up into second with 157,000.

The pace of play has slowed down as competitors can now see the end of the flight on the horizon. Some players are counting their blinds carefully and moving with caution, while others are proving a more aggressive style of play is the way to build. Several players have been racking up chips and sending their opponents packing, hoping to go into Day 2 with the largest stack possible.

Take a look at some recent action:

68 players have returned from break to continue into level 9. With the exception of a handful of large stacks, many players seem to be sitting around the current chip average of 58,400.

Bryan Robitaille Fequet is definitely one of the exceptions as he maintains the top spot with 188,000 in chips, good for 235 big blinds. The leaderboard has added three new members since the first break, it will be interesting to see if they can retain their edge throughout the next few levels.
