14 Players Advance from Day 1C

    February 3, 2020February 3, 2020 | 8:01pm | Playground

Day 1C of the Playground 100 brought out a field that made a total of 133 entries to this starting flight. The large turnout allowed 14 players to reach the money and advance their stacks to Day 2. Click here to see the combined Day 1 results.

The early levels on Day 1C were predictably wild, as the players made use of the unlimited re-entry option early and often, which led to 19 re-entries on the day. Many different players had turns as the chip leader this afternoon. With each passing break, there was a new chip leader. By the time the chips went into the bag in level 20, George Kazarian established a big lead over the rest of the field with 463,500 in chips ready to go for Day 2.

There are two more starting flights for the Playground 100. Day 1D is currently underway, late registration is available until 9:15pm. The final starting flight, Day 1E Turbo, runs tomorrow at 11:00am. Day 2 will be held tomorrow evening at 7:00pm.

    18 Levels Played; 18 Remain

    February 3, 2020 | 6:56pm | Playground

The end of the flight is only four eliminations away on Day 1C.

Despite the restricted ranges, the mounting blinds forced the action in the last level and sent several players to the rail, quickly reducing the field to the final 18.

The chip leader at the last break, Goran Brestovac, lost a huge pot shortly after play resumed to this flight’s new chip leader, Rose-Ann Levert. Levert is now in great shape to qualify for Day 2, as she now has a stack of more than double the current chip average of 148K.

The chip average gets players scarcely more than 18 big blinds at this point, so expect most hands to be played out entirely preflop from here until the ed of the flight.

Here is a look at the action from level 18:

    Brestovac Takes the Lead

    • Level: 17
    • Small Blind: 2.5K
    • Big Blind: 5K
    • BB Ante: 5K
    • Chip Average: 102K
    • Remaining: 26
    • Entries: 133
    February 3, 2020 | 6:16pm | Playground

Goran Brestovac flew under the radar up until this point on Day 1C, but he now sits atop the leaderboard with a stack of 45 big blinds, which puts him well ahead of most of the field.

Only 26 players remain in contention, and just more than half of them will advance to Day 2 and reach the money. The last two levels had a starkly different dynamic than the early stages of play. Most hands are being played out heads-up, and showdowns are becoming a far less frequent occurrence. The players have clearly shifted into survival mode, as the dwindling field and mounting blinds make hand selection of paramount importance.

    15 Levels Played; 32 Remain

    • Small Blind: 2K

    • Chip Average: 82K
    • Remaining: 32
    • Entries: 133
    February 3, 2020 | 5:39pm | Playground

Only 32 players remain on Day 1C. The top 14 will qualify for Day 2 so the tension is mounting with each passing elimination.

The blinds are catching up to the field, as an average stack is now worth slightly more than 20 big blinds, which has forced the remaining players to be much more selective.

Here is a look at the action from level 15:

    Tight Race for the Lead

    • Level: 12
    • Small Blind: 800
    • Big Blind: 1.6K
    • BB Ante: 1.6K
    • Chip Average: 58K
    • Remaining: 45
    • Entries: 133
    February 3, 2020 | 4:29pm | Playground

The blinds are mounting, the field is shrinking, and there is a tight race at the top of the leaderboard on Day 1C.

Only 45 players remain in this flight. They are playing down to the top 14 this afternoon, so the tension will only mount from here. The current chip leader, Christina Gaulin, holds a narrow lead over her rivals thanks to her 76-big-blind stack. But, as everyone knows, things can change quickly in tournament poker so she will have to stay sharp if she hopes to stay ahead of the field.

An average stack gets players nearly 36 big blinds in level 12, which is enough to take most lines but the margin for error remains thin.

The all-in card was put to use early and often this afternoon, in what has become an action-packed starting flight. After only eight levels of play, the field has been reduced to 70 players from a total of 133 entries. Everyone understands that building a stack early in a Day 1 is key to deep run in this type of event, and they have adjusted their approaches accordingly.

The top 14 players will reach the money and advance to Day 2, which means there is a long way to go in this flight.

End of Late Registration; Cacoilo Leads at the First Break

    February 3, 2020 | 2:25pm | Playground

Play has just resumed in level 7, meaning that the late registration and re-entry period has ended. But this flight proved its drawing power before that moment arrived, as Day 1C took in 133 entries. This large turnout will allow the top 14 players to advance to Day 2.

The chip leader for the time being is Julio Cacoilo, who more than tripled his starting stack in the early levels. He started level 7 with 128 big blinds.

With more new players and re-entries by the minute, the total entries for Day 1C have already surpassed the century mark. The players are wasting no time in their efforts to run up their stacks, as big pots are playing out on nearly every hand dealt.

A starting stack still provides nearly 67 big blinds in level 5, so new players and re-entries alike have lots of room to maneuver.

Here is a look at the action from level 4:

Over 60 Entries Through Two Levels

    • Level: 2
    • Small Blind: 75
    • Big Blind: 150

    February 3, 2020 | 12:40pm | Playground

Day 1C is starting off at a great pace. Through two levels of play, this flight has already taken in 67 entries, and the ice hes been broken on the re-entries. Expect many more re-entries to follow this afternoon, as players take advantage of the affordable price point and unlimited re-entry structure.

With two starting flights already in the books, the overall chip leader in the Playground 100 is Sebastien Drolet-Poitras, who has 472,000 in chips bagged and waiting for Day 2. More new players have been registering for Day 1C by the minute, which should put a huge number of chips in play by the time the late registration and re-entry period ends at 2:15pm to give this flight’s top stack a good shot at the overall chip lead.

    It’s Time for Day 1C

    February 3, 2020February 3, 2020 | 11:53am | Playground

The Playground 100 continues this afternoon with the third of five starting flights, Day 1C. This multi-day event has taken in 290 entries so far, and 30 players have already secured their spots for Day 2. To see the combined day 1 results, click here.

For Day 1C, as with all other starting flights, players will start with 20,000 in chips to play through as many 20-minute levels as needed to reduce the field to 10% of the total entries. The top 10% will advance to day 2. Play will begin 10-handed but move to 9-handed play as soon as possible.

The Playground 100 is an unlimited re-entry event with unlimited re-entries permitted until the end of the late registration period on each Day 1, which will arrive when level 7 begins at 2:15pm. Players may play additional Day 1s even if they have survived a previous Day 1 with chips. Players who qualify for Day 2 more than once will resume play on Day 2 with their largest qualifying stack; all other qualifying stacks will be forfeited, but players would receive the associated cash prize for any forfeited stack.

    Good luck to all!
