Event #8 of the 2020 World Cup of Cards, the $200 + $20 Roll the Dice 8-Max Re-entry tournament attracted a total of 57 entries, allowing the $8,000 guaranteed prize pool to grow to $11,058. This is always one of the most fun events as the player on the button gets to “roll the dice” to determine which variant of the game will be played. Each number on the die corresponds to one of six different choices. The six available games are: NLHE, PLO, 5-Card PLO, NL Pineapple, NL Crazy Pineapple and “player’s choice” (the player gets to chose which one of the five variants that they want to play). Fans of Omaha love this event as it allows for both four and five card action.

Nick “NTG” Nickoletopoulos took the early lead and stayed on the leaderboard for most of the night. By the time the second break arrived, Darrel Peters emerged as the new chip leader and from then on kept sending players to the rail, including many final tableists.

When play finally went heads-up between Peters and Goran Brestovac, Peters had almost a three-to-one chip, but Brestovac kept fighting away and started to win some pots. The final hand was a 5-card Omaha hand when Peters flopped a set of threes against Brestovac’s pocket kings and double gutshot.

The turn and river failed to produce one of the ten outs needed to sway the result, and Peters was crowned champion – full hand pictured below. Congratulations!

Event #8 Champion: Darrel Peters, $3,158

    Last hand of play:

    Second place: Goran Brestovac, $2,340

Nickoletopoulos exits in 4th ($1,280); Lashmar exits in 3rd ($1,780), the tournament is now heads-up

The hand was played as PLO. Darrel Peters was seated on the button and raised it up from 20,000 to 55,000, finding a call from Ryan Lashmar. The flop came 3 of Spades Ace of Hearts 7 of Spades and Darrel checked, with Peters continuing pout for 50,000. Back on Lashmar he potted for 260,000 and Peters moved all in. Lashmar made the call.

Peters: Ace of Clubs King of Diamonds 10 of Hearts 3 of Clubs
Lashmar: Ace of Diamonds Queen of Spades 6 of Clubs 7 of Diamonds

The turn was the 8 of Clubs but the river was magical for Peters as once again as he boated up when the 3 of Hearts hit the river. Peters is now sitting on 1.075,000 chips and Brestovac is heads-up against him with 345,000.

    Third place: Ryan Lashmar, $1,780

A little bit earlier there was another bustout:

Fourth place: Nick “NTG” Nickoletopoulos, $1,280

    The tournament is now heads-up.

Godbout exits in 5th place ($950)

In a hand of crazy pineapple, action folded to Darrel Peters on the button who bumped it to 50,000, only to see Francois Godbout shove his remaining 149,000 from the small blind. The big blind folded and Peters, sitting on the biggest stack on the table, made the call.

Godbout: Queen of Spades Queen of Diamonds
Peters: King of Spades 3 of Diamonds

The board ran out: 3 of Spades Ace of Clubs 8 of Clubs 5 of DiamondsKing of Hearts and once again, the run-good continues for Peters as he spikes two pair on the river to best Godbout’s ladies.

    Fifth place: Francois Godbout, $950

Throughout the evening there has been a lot of Omaha being played and the players love when the game is 5-card Omaha. There was just a three-way all in after Darrel Peters had raised it up from 16,000 to 33,000 and found a shove of 128,000 from Ryan Lashmar followed by a re-shove of 112,000 by Ari Malek. Peters decided to make the call and they went three-way to the flop.

Lashmar flopped the nut flush which held all the way through and found a nice triple-up, while Malek was sent to the rail.

    Sixth place: Ari Malek, $700

Darrel Peters seems to be invincible at the moment as he is just not be able to lose a hand, flopping boats and winning pot after pot over the last level of play.

With the blinds at 3,000/6,000, action folded to Peters on the button who raised it up to 16,000. To his surprise, Pat St-Onge in the small blind and Darren Johnson in the big blind both moved all in. Their stacks were both under 10 big blinds and although Peters seemed to feel that he might be behind, since he was sitting on a large stack, he knew that the math made sense to make the call.

St-Onge: Ace of Diamonds Ace of Hearts
Johnson: King of Spades King of Clubs
Peters: Queen of Clubs Queen of Diamonds

It seemed like St-Onge was in a great spot, but with the run-good of Peters things would change fast when the dealer peeled 5 of Spades 9 of Hearts Queen of Hearts on the flop, making a set for Peters. Neither the Jack of Diamonds on the turn or the 3 of Spades on the river were of any help to St-Onge and Johnson, and Peters added more chips to his already large stack as both other players were sent to the rail.

In crazy pineapple the players are dealt three cards pre-flop and then must discard one of the three cards on the flop.

On table 34, action was opened by Shawn Daigle when he bumped it up from 600 to 1,800, receiving calls from Stefan Siveski, Bastien Muselli and Ryan Lashmar.

The flop came 2 of Spades 10 of Spades 10 of Clubs and Daigle lead out for 7,000. With the action on Siveski, he decided to move all in, as did Muselli seated on his direct left. Lashmar got out of the way and Daigle made the call.

Daigle: Jack of Diamonds Jack of Spades
Siveski: 10 of Hearts 7 of Spades
Muselli: 2 of Clubs 2 of Diamonds

Daigle had the over pair, Siveski flopped trip tens and Muselli flopped a boat! Whoa! A crazy hand in crazy pineapple! The 5 of Hearts turn and 6 of Diamonds river didn’t change a thing and Daigle was sent to the rail while Muselli pulled in a ton of chips!
