Lamia bags the lead in Day 1A

    October 30, 2019October 30, 2019 | 1:34am | Playground

The first live flight of the $3,000 + $300 Main Event attracted a total of 182 entries, including 19 re-entries. Some of the best names in the business were in the field today, with players from all over Canada and the United States, as well as some from overseas, getting in on the action.

Spencer McLean was the chip leader early on in the evening and maintained the top spot for most of the flight. Most of the players who were on the leaderboard managed to hold onto their chips through the course of eight 60-minute levels of play, and when it was all said and done, it was Roger Lamia who bagged the lead with 278,000 chips.

Here are the top five stacks from Day 1A:

    1. Roger Lamia, 278,000
    2. Spencer Mclean, 222,200
    3. William Blais, 178,900
    4. Shaan Siddiqui, 161,000
    5. Curt Kohlberg, 160,400

Day 1B starts at noon tomorrow, and Day 1C takes place Thursday, also at 12:00pm. Day 2 runs Friday at 12:00pm, and players can enter (or re-enter) the tournament up until the start of level 13 on Day 2 at 4:30pm.

The action folded to Brian Altman in late position who raised it up to 4,800. It folded to David Guay in the small blind who raised to 12,400. The big blind folded and when the action returned to Altman, he went into the tank before deciding to move all in for 29,000. Guay made the call.

Guay: Ace of Clubs King of Hearts
Altman: Ace of Diamonds Queen of Clubs

The board ran out Jack of Spades 9 of Diamonds 3 of Spades 8 of Hearts 8 of Spades and Guay sent Altman to the rail, just a few minutes before the end of the last level. Guay is now back up to 82,000.

Mclean back in the lead at the third break

    October 29, 2019October 31, 2019 | 11:35pm | Playground

There are now 116 players still in their seats from the 175 entries, including 15 re-entries, which has been a great turnout for Day 1A!

Spencer Mclean, who was the chip leader at the first break, and in second place at the last break, is back on top of the field with 188,300 in chips. The second place at the moment is held by another Spencer, Spencer Trueman, with 182,500 followed by Jiachen Gong with 174,100.

Here are the top stacks in play:

Levac and Elias get badly needed double-ups to stay alive

    • Level: 6
    • Small Blind: 300
    • Big Blind: 500
    • BB Ante: 500K
    • Chip Average: 57K

Stacy Levac opened to 1,200 in early position and was three-bet to 3,500 by Roy Rochette in the cut off. Levac made the call. The flop came Queen of Spades 2 of Spades 2 of Clubs, and Levac checked. Rochette bet again, this time for 6,500, only to be met by a shove of 13,900 by Levac. Rochette looked uncomfortable as he was thinking it through, but he finally made the call.

Levac: Ace of Hearts Queen of Clubs
Rochette: 9 of Spades 9 of Clubs

Rochette needed to see a nine however the Ace of Clubs on the turn and Jack of Clubs on the river were of no help to him. Levac’s pair of queens got him a double up to bring him within striking distance of the current chip average.

Over on the next table, Darren Elias was short stacked and open shoved under the gun for 10,400. Jean Poirier made the call in late position, and everyone else got out of the way.

Elias: 8 of Spades 7 of Spades
Poirier: Ace of Diamonds Queen of Spades

Elias was behind, but those suited connectors gave him live cards. The flop came 5 of Clubs 7 of Hearts King of Hearts, and Elias hit a pair. The Jack of Hearts turn and 3 of Clubs river were bricks for Poirier, leaving Elias in better shape than he was before the hand started.

The players were just on break which gave us a chance to look around the room for the bigger stacks in play. One player has managed to go north of 200,000; local high stakes cash game and tournament player Jiachen “Jack” Gong is the current leader with an impressive 214,500 chips. Spencer Mclean, who was leading at the first break, has also kept up his pace and sits in second place with 177,400.

The anticipation has been building for weeks. The WPT Montreal Main Event is finally here! The WPT Montreal Main Event is one of the premier events of the year and guarantees a prize pool of $3,000,000 so now is the time to head to Playground to join the action.

It began on Sunday, October 20, when the online flight for the $3,000 + $300 WPT Main Event, the Online Day 1 & 2, played out. For the Main Event, the Online Day 1 & 2 saw players battle it out until the number of remaining players had been reduced to 1 in 7 entries. When that moment arrived, the remaining players were in the money. These players will be reunited with their stacks when Day 3 play begins on November 2 at 12:00pm. The Online Day 1 & 2 on partypoker took in a total of 101 entries, getting the WPT Montreal Main Event off to a great start.

When the dust settled at the end of the flight, 14 remained to advance their stacks to Day 3 and a spot in the money. Michael Watson brought forward the largest stack of the day, but with a field of elite players, even a large lead is far from safe.

Players start with 40,000 chips and play through eight 60 minute levels in the live Day 1’s. Players may enter (or re-enter) the tournament until the beginning of Level 13 on Day 2.

This is a multiple re-entry event with 1 entry and 1 re-entry on each Day 1, as well as on Day 2 until the end of the late registration period at the beginning of level 13. Same day re-entry is permitted to any player who loses all their chips, or, chooses to forfeit their stack. A player may play additional Day 1’s even if they have survived a previous Day 1 (or Day 1 & 2 Online) with chips. Players who qualify more than once for Day 2 will resume play with their largest qualifying stack. Day 2 re-entry cannot be completed with a qualifying stack. A player may buy into Day 2 if they have previously qualified a stack for Day 3 through Day 1 & 2 Online. If they survive Day 2, the larger qualifying stack would carry over to Day 3 and the smaller would be forfeited. They would, however, retain the associated cash prize.

There are already 100 players seated at the tables right now and players continue to enter the tournament room minute by minute so that number will just keep on growing throughout the afternoon and evening.

    Good luck to all!
