Sapra bags the lead from Day 1B

    August 29, 2019 | 12:24am | Playground

Day 1B of the Main Event delivered another action-packed day that brought out a total of 377 entries. There were roughly 150 players involved at the start of the flight, and they were joined by a steady influx of new players throughout the afternoon. The size of the field was helped along by 79 re-entries, putting nearly 19 million in chips in play.

Today’s turnout brought the total number of entries in the Main Event to 845, on the eve of the final starting flight, Day 1C. Players may also enter (and re-enter) this event on each of the two Day 2s prior to the beginning of level 13.

Several players had turns with the chip lead today. Cletus Severyn took the lead by the first break, but he was overtaken by John Huynh by the second break. Later in the afternoon Matthew Witterick took a significant lead around the mid-point of the flight, but he was eclipsed by the chip leader for this flight, Jishant Sapra, who went on an incredible run following the dinner break. Sapra joined the flight during the dinner break and found ways to run up a stack of roughly eight times the chip average in a very short time span.

Day 1B is now in its final level of play, and the players have their sights set on surviving to the end of the flight in order to bagg chips for Day 2. The new entries tailed off after the last break, leaving the number of entries steady at 377. At this point, 150 players remain in contention.

An average stack provides slightly more than 100 big blinds, but our chip leaders have hundreds more at their disposal.

Here are some of the biggest stacks from the late stages of this flight:

The players have returned to their seats following the last break of the flight, and the is a new chip leader.

Jishant Sapra, who is coming off a deep run in the Colossus, only joined Day 1B during the dinner break and went on a heater of epic proportions. He is now sitting on a stack of more than eight times the current chip average and in good shape to bag the chip lead from this flight. Matthew Witterick has kept up the solid play that got him the chip lead earlier in the flight and has chipped up since, but he now sits in a distant second place.

More players left this flight than joined during the last level of play, leaving 183 players out of 370 total entries.

Now that the players have settled in for the grind to the end of the flight, the flow of new players has slowed to a trickle. The size of the field has been more stable than at any other point today, but this “new normal” is not likely to last for long. The gap between the big and small stacks will gradually widen and exert an influence over the play dynamics that will force many players into action.

Here is an updated look at the field from level seven:

Play has just resumed in level seven. The players had a chance to refuel and relax during the extended break, and they have now returned to the tables ready to pick up where they left off. One player hoping for just that is Matthew Witterick, who went on a heater in the lead up to the break to take a commanding chip lead.

Late registration and re-entries are still available, and a number of players took advantage of the extended late registration period to jump in during the break, bringing the total number of entries up to 347.

The Main Event is now on a 60-minute dinner break. While the players enjoy the buffet, we will compile the chip counts of the largest stacks in play.

The timer is winding down on level six, and the dinner break is just around the corner. Players in the Main Event will be treated to a delicious buffet and have a chance to relax and re-charge during the 60-minute break.

The field now stands at 209 players out of a total of 326 entries, which includes 51 re-entries. And there is likely to be several more new players join the field before play resumes in level seven.

Here is an updated look at the field:

    Huynh leads after four levels

As play resumes in level five, the total number of entries is quickly approaching 300. There have been 31 re-entries so far, putting lots of chips in play for the 230 remaining players to go get.

Several new players made their way on to the latest leaderboard, with the largest stacks approaching triple the current chip average. Play is especially deep on table 37 where three of the biggest stacks in play, held by John Huynh, Steve Foisy and Daniel Yee, are currently seated.

The action continues in level four, and the number of entries on Day 1B is within striking distance of yesterday’s total after less than four hours of play. There have only been 18 re-entries so far, which means that the rapid growth in the size of the field has been driven by the arrival of new players.

Here is a look at the field from level three:

Severyn leads after the first break

    • Small Blind: 150

New players and re-entries continue to join the field at a steady pace, following the conclusion of the first break of the day.

The current chip leader on Day 1B is Cletus William Marshall Severyn, who nearly tripled his starting stack during the first two levels. There are several other players in the “six-figure club” with stacks above 100K but there remains lots of poker to be played today so we will have to wait and see if their early momentum will be maintained.

Day 1B is picking up pace in a hurry, as new players and re-entries continue to roll in. As the timer winds down on the second level of play, 222 entries, including 8 re-entries, have joined this flight. There are now over 11 million in chips in play, and millions more are sure to follow in the hours ahead.

Here is a look at the field from the first level of play:

167 entries to start Day 1B

    • Level: 1
    • Small Blind: 100
    • Big Blind: 200
    • BB Ante: 200
    • Chip Average: 50.1K
    • Remaining: 165
    • Entries: 167
    August 28, 2019 | 1:00pm | Playground

The action is now underway on Day 1B, with 167 entries before the end of the first level of play. When the opening announcement was made, there were more players on hand than to start Day 1A so this flight is likely to surpass yesterday’s entries. Late registration and re-entries will be available for the entirety of this starting flight, which will put a massive number of chips in play.
